We love living in Grand County and especially love the winters out here. There are tons of options for fun things to do, plus you miss some of the crowds and craziness of nearby Summit County.
Here's our list of things to do in the winter in Grand County plus some of our favorite holiday traditions.
CHECK OUT THE TALLEST LIVING CHRISTMAS TREE
That's right, here in Kremmling, we literally have the tallest living Christmas tree in Colorado, ranking in at over 65 feet tall. The bonus is that the tree is located in the park right across from us at Blue Valley Spirits!
GO SNOWMOBILING
Did you know there are over 1,000 miles of snowmobiling trails in Grand County? We couldn't believe it either and love how many options you have! We also didn't know that Grand Lake is the Snowmobile Capital of Colorado, but it sounds like a great place to start. Closer to Kremmling, there are tons of trails, especially between town and Rabbit Ears Pass! Check out this cute map for more options!
TRY DOG SLEDDING
We love cute dogs and being outside, so dog sledding is an excellent option! There are two companies here in Grand County that offer dog sledding experiences: Snow Mountain Ranch and Dashing Thru the Snow. It's worth checking out and is another one of the fun ways to get outside.
EXPLORE ON CROSS-COUNTRY SKIS
Cross-country skiing is one of the most popular winter sports here in Kremmling. Latigo Ranch is a snow sport and cross country skiing mecca with over 50 km of groomed trails. Another excellent option is to drive about 20 minutes out of town to the Rabbit Ears Pass area. It is stunning up there, and we love that you get lovely views of the valley!
GET OUT ON THE LAKE FOR ICE FISHING
In Grand County, there are many lakes and ponds, so when they freeze over, you have plenty of options for ice fishing! Plus, the river is a great place to put on your waders and get in the water for fly fishing, even in the cold temps! Fun fact, if you are an ice fishing officiando, Granby, Kremmling, and Grand Lake all host annual ice fishing contests.
TAKE THE FAMILY SLEDDING OR TUBING
Nearby Summit County isn't the only place you can do some fun sledding or tubing. We have SEVEN sledding and tubing hills in Grand County, plus all the local hills we take our kiddos to. There are paid options, or you can go to the Grand Lake Nordic Center for free!
STAY WARM AT THE HOT SPRINGS
One of our favorite things to do in the winter is soaking in the warm hot springs. Not too far from Kremmling is the Hot Sulphur Springs Resort that offers 21 natural spring-fed pools, some as hot as 112ºF! You can't go wrong with relaxing, especially during the holidays.
SKI AT BLUEBIRD BACKCOUNTRY
We are so excited that Bluebird Backcountry has come to Grand County! With over 1,200 acres of mountains to explore, plus backcountry skiing lessons in Colorado, you can ski affordably and stop by the distillery for a cocktail on the way home. Day passes are $50, and reservations are open.
